How to Use NABP Safe Pharmacy Resources
The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy represents the state boards that license pharmacies and maintains a public directory of them. Its member boards cover all 50 states, DC and the territories. Use the directory to reach the board that licenses your pharmacy, then search that board's own licensee database.
What NABP is
NABP is a non-profit association whose members are the state boards of pharmacy themselves. Active member boards cover all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. It administers the licensure examinations pharmacists take and maintains resources for the public.
It is not a regulator. It does not license pharmacies and it cannot discipline them. What it provides is the route to the bodies that do.
How to use it
The practical function for a patient is the directory of member boards. Find your state, or the state your pharmacy operates from, and follow it through to that board's own site — which is where the licensee database, the nonresident registration list and any disciplinary records live.
We link the NABP directory rather than 51 individual board URLs across this site, because board web addresses change and a dead link on a verification page is worse than one extra click.
The two lookups that matter
Licensee search. Confirms the pharmacy holds a current licence in that state. Check that status is active rather than lapsed, suspended or conditional.
Nonresident pharmacy register. Confirms whether an out-of-state pharmacy is registered to ship into your state. This is the constraint patients most often do not know exists, and it decides availability more frequently than prescriber licensure does.
What to do with what you find
If the pharmacy is current in its home state and registered as a nonresident pharmacy in yours, the licensing question is answered. If it is not registered in your state and is shipping to you anyway, that is a question for the provider and possibly for your state board.
None of this speaks to product quality. Licensure establishes that a facility is inside the regulatory system. Testing arrangements, registration class and enforcement history are separate checks.
